Tech Prep 2017 - Residential Option
Georgia Tech's Center for Academic Success, in collaboration with the School of Mathematics, announces an exciting summer program designed to give entering Tech freshmen an added advantage in successfully completing their introductory calculus courses. The Calculus Advantage, Tech Prep, is a non-credit, intensive program that will review fundamental calculus concepts as well as introduce strategies critical for academic success in calculus and other first-year courses. Tech Prep is designed to be an active, social, and relaxed environment with the overall goal of giving new students a head start on their success at Tech. Students will be provided with 20 instructional hours on fundamental calculus concepts that are critical to success in MATH 1551 (Differential Calculus), MATH 1552 (Integral Calculus), and MATH 1712 (Survey of Calculus) . The concepts covered are based on faculty observation of problems commonly experienced by students in Tech calculus courses and are the ones that typically cause some first year students to under-perform at Tech, even though they may have performed well in AP Calculus. However, this course is not intended for students who already know BC calculus. Tech Prep will be held August 6 - August 10. Enrollment is limited. The program fee covers: meals each day, program t-shirt, 20 hours of instructional time with GT Math faculty, participation in planned events, and program materials (online resources, program notebook, etc.). The residential option also includes housing for the duration of the program.
