Georgia's Pulp and Paper Industry, 1990-2008

Based upon a unique National Establishment Time Series database, this study provides a context for dynamic changes that have occurred in Georgia’s pulp and paper industry. Consistent with national trends, employment losses in Georgia's pulp and paper industry reflect a much smaller number of employees per establishment, yet with an increasing number of establishments. In all but the mill sectors, the 3-year sales growth performance has been in the top quartile for a majority of Georgia’s pulp and paper establishments. And there has been a relative shift of resources away from the mill sector and towards the converter sector. There is also evidence of increasing private relative to public ownership in Georgia’s pulp and paper industry.
