Pollution Abatement and Prevention: Cross-Industry

This report benchmarks seven selected industries, including paper manufacturing, using the data on pollution reduction, measured by the total chemical release indicators, and pollution prevention (P2), measured by the number of new P2 activities adopted within the industries. The toxics release inventory (TRI) and P2 data capture two different regulatory frameworks – pollution reduction as a result of the stringent federal regulations, and pollution prevention as a result of voluntary self-regulation.
